During their May 26, 2020 meeting, the Rocky Mount City Council voted unanimously to provide financial support to the 1900 block of Vance Street to assist in the construction of eight new single-family homes for citizens with disabilities and low-to-moderate-income families.

The development will consist of two 1-bedroom and six 3-bedroom homes in the South Rocky Mount community. Each structure will be approximately 1,250 square feet. Funding for the project will consist of a $150,000 city of Rocky Mount Housing Incentives Grant as well as a $250,000 award from the Down East Home Consortium in Community Housing Development Organization funds. Vance Street homes will provide permanent housing for families at or below 50% and 80% average median income. The city of Rocky Mount Housing Authority will arrange for Housing Choice Voucher payment assistance.

“This is a great way to continue our efforts in providing affordable housing to our citizens,” Community and Business Development Director Cynthia Jones said. “We expect this will also encourage future development in the city of Rocky Mount.”
