The energy savings can be significant when replacing older, inefficient appliances. During April 22nd- April 25th and again in June 2010, customers will get an opportunity to save on the cost of replacing their old inefficient appliances through the ENERGY STAR Appliance Replacement and Rebate Program. As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the State of North Carolina received more than $8.8 million in federal funds to assist homeowners in replacing inefficient appliances. The program is being administered by the U.S. Department of Energy. National chain retailers as well as local appliance retailers will be participating in the rebate program.
The program will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase will coincide with Earth Day on April 22nd and conclude on April 25th. Customers who purchase new ENERGY STAR qualified appliances during this time will receive an instant rebate of 15% at the time of purchase. Phase two is scheduled to begin in June 2010. During this time, customers will be eligible for a mail-in rebate. The amount of the phase two rebate has not been determined at the time of this news release. The mail-in rebate will continue until the funds are depleted.
The ENERGY STAR rebate will be in addition to any store, manufacturer, or any other discounts being offered. Customers may receive more than one rebate as long as it is for a different kind of equipment. Many retailers offer free delivery and removal of old appliances. Customers should contact the retailer for more details.
