The City of Rocky Mount received the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Diamond status award given by the American Public Power Association (APPA) on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the APPA Annual Engineering and Operations Technical Conference in Omaha, Nebraska. Diamond status is given to those utilities that have achieved 100% of the defined criteria. Recipients of this award are recognized for providing the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
The City of Rocky Mount was one of only six of over two thousand publicly owned electric utility systems to receive this designation. The City of Rocky Mount has maintained the Diamond level status since 2008. The City received a Platinum level RP3 designation in 2007-2008 for achieving more than ninety percent of the defined criteria.
“Having been designated as a Diamond status RP3 utility for the second time in a row is a proud achievement. It is a testament to the dedication, hard work and commitment of our utility crews that work tirelessly to provide customers with safe, reliable and efficient power,” said Utilities Director, Rich Worsinger.
RP3 is a program designed by the American Public Power Association to recognize utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. This program encourages utilities to document high work force standards as a way to publicly recognize their sustained efforts in providing reliable electric service.
