![]() Interested youth & businesses should click here to learn more & apply. Through the NC Summer Jobs program, qualified businesses and agencies can hire young adults and pay them with federal stimulus funds. Additionally, the administrative functions of screening, hiring and paying the young people will be handled locally by The Turning Point Workforce Development Board. Turning Point's intent for this program is to assist at-risk youth, ages 14-24, in achieving major educational attainment, skill development and/or employment. Programs and services are being designed in such a way that job placement and career development strategies are maintained and relevant to the marketplace. The program officially starts June 1st, and Turning Point intends to have youth on the job as early as June 12th. Turning Point received approximately $1.6 million in funding made possible by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act to locally establish this statewide initiative, part of what is being called "NC Jobs Now." Youth interested in finding a job through the program can learn more and apply by visiting the program website, jumpinthejobpool.com. Participating youth must meet "at-risk" eligibility qualifications as established by the Workforce Development Board. This program is open to all employers who qualify, including small businesses, local governments, and nonprofit agencies. Potential employer participants should visit www.turningpointwwdb.org for more information on eligibility and registration requirements, as well as register at jumpinthejobpool.com. Twenty-four Workforce Development Boards throughout North Carolina serve as public-private partnerships that administer and monitor employment training and placement initiatives. These locally managed boards are comprised of local citizens from business, government, economic development and community groups who best understand the local training and employment needs for the Board's region. The Boards administer funding and direct programs designed to address the local training and employment needs. These include the JobLink Career Centers in each county, youth programs and other initiatives. |
