Summer Day camp

Applications are now being accepted for Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation’s Summer Day Camp, offered for children ages five to 12. The camps, being held June 18 through Aug. 24, will offer a number of educational activities, such as programs to enhance arts and crafts, swimming and skating. Summer Day Camp will also offer outdoor sports, field trips, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) projects, cooking and games.

Summer Day Camp will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with locations at Winstead Avenue Elementary for children five to eight.

Additional camps, called Quest Camps, will be held at Booker T. Washington Community Center. To attend quest sites, children must be enrolled in select schools and must be between the ages of five and eight.

According to Heather White, recreation program supervisor for Parks and Recreation, Summer Day Camp will be led by retired teachers and Parks and Recreation staff.

“Summer Day Camp offers an avenue for children to be educated during the summer months,” said White. “It is also an excellent opportunity for students to continue enhancing their social skills as they engage in various activities and communicate with peers from many different schools and backgrounds.”
