The city of Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Braswell Memorial Library, is now hosting Popsicles and Stories in the Park. The free event will be held every other Tuesday at 10 a.m. at various parks throughout the city.

Popsicles and Stories in the Park locations are: Hornbeam Park at 150 Cunningham Dr. on June 26; Buck Leonard Park at 929 S. Grace St. on July 10; Stith-Talbert Park at 729 Pennsylvania Ave. on July 24; Three Sisters Park at 221 Walter Dr. in Battleboro on Aug. 7 and Sunset Park at 1550 River Dr. on August 21.

“We really wanted to engage and encourage youth to continue reading during the summer, and this program is a fun way to do that,” said Emily Randell, recreation services supervisor for the city. “Staff members and volunteers from the library will be our guest readers.”

The family-friendly event is for children of all ages and includes games, stories and free popsicles! Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs for sitting.
