Discussions to be held in search for police chief

Community input is encouraged as the Rocky Mount Police Department seeks a permanent police chief. The public is invited to participate in one of two focus groups on Wednesday, Aug. 15- from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The discussions will be held in the council chamber located on the third floor of City Hall.

Pat Bazemore, a retired police chief from the town of Cary, N.C., will be the lead consultant for the discussions.

The public is encouraged to bring ideas regarding the characteristics they would like to see in the next police chief, as well as what they feel are the most pressing issues facing law enforcement.

Bazemore will meet with members of the Rocky Mount Police Department on Aug. 14 for their input.

Willie Williams has served as interim police chief for the Rocky Mount Police Department since Dec. 12, 2017.
