Judge

With the appointment of Councilmember Lamont Wiggins as a North Carolina Superior Court Judge, the Ward 3 council seat will become vacant in late April. It is the Rocky Mount City Council’s responsibility to fill the Ward 3 vacancy.

Residents of Ward 3 who are registered and eligible to vote may apply to be formally considered for appointment. Those interested should submit a formal, written application (interest form), available online or through the City Clerk’s office. At the close of the application process, the council will hold interviews and make an appointment.

The appointee will serve until the next scheduled council election in October 2019. At that time, if the appointee would like to continue to serve on the council, they must run for election. If elected, they would serve the remainder of Wiggins’ term which will expire December 2021.

The deadline for submission of interest forms is April 30, 2018. Forms may be found at http://rockymountnc.gov/government/mayor_city_council/. Forms may be submitted to the City Clerk’s office, located on the fifth floor of the Frederick E. Turnage Municipal Building (City Hall). Completed forms may also be e-mailed to pamela.casey@rockymountnc.gov.
