Residential Energy Assessment Program

REQUEST AN ENERGY AUDIT

Understanding how energy is used in the home can often open the door to reducing energy consumption and lowering energy costs. With the Residential Energy Assessment program, available through the City of Rocky Mount, customers can learn how energy is used in their home, how to reduce consumption, and how to reduce energy costs. The City of Rocky Mount provides this service to customers at no cost.

The City of Rocky Mount performs assessments to help customers identify low cost and no cost ways to lower utility bills using a combination of efficient operations. Cost cutting and saving opportunities are examined for electric, natural gas, water and sewer usage.

Each energy assessment involves an in-depth review of the customer’s home and energy habits. The process takes approximately an hour and a half to complete. The energy assessor begins by reviewing a twelve month billing history with the customer. By looking at a twelve month history, the customer is able to see a comparison of month to month energy usage.

After reviewing the energy usage history, the customer is given an energy kit that contains various items to help reduce energy usage. Energy kits include four compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL), a low flow shower head, twenty switch and outlet seals, an air filter whistle, a hot water gauge, a refrigerator thermometer, and a portable thermometer to check for temperature consistency through out the home. Next, the customer accompanies the assessor through the home to identify potential energy savings. At the end of the assessment the customer is given a report detailing any findings with recommendations on specific ways to save energy. Often times, customers are able to take advantage of low cost or no cost methods of saving energy.
