City of Rocky Mount upgrades street and area lights to LED

Beginning Monday, March 27, the city of Rocky Mount will begin replacing all existing street and area lights with light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures.

LEDs are more energy efficient, have a longer lifespan and produce a better color rendition that the current street and area light fixtures. The city hired a contractor to complete the light changeout project, which is expected to last about 12 months.

Switching to LED area light fixtures has resulted in a reduction to the monthly rental fees. The cost to rent an area light for a home or business starts at $5.07 per month. Additional fees may apply depending on the type of light fixture needed. Customers interested in installing an area light may contact the city of Rocky Mount forester at (252) 467-4856.
