Geographic Information Systems

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is used to automate, manipulate, analyze, and display geographic (spatial) data in digital form. The City of Rocky Mount's Technology Services Division maintains and distributes geographic data, analysis tools, and mapping products for use by the City's staff in their daily operations.

Data maintained by City GIS Staff includes political boundaries, land parcel information, infrastructure systems (street network, water systems, sewer systems), emergency response facilities, recreational facilities, and other associated data pertaining to city operations. Data is maintained in both computer-aided design (CAD) and GIS file formats.

The GIS staff also develop and maintain GIS databases and applications, provide technical and operational support for GIS-related hardware and software, and offer GIS training for city staff, as well as providing mapping products and services to the citizens of Rocky Mount. These services include our Online Interactive Map Viewer, available below. Note: This viewer requires Internet Explorer or Firefox.
